I've been actively engaged in pay-per-click campaigns, paid inclusion and optimisation for the natural (free) listings.

Pay-per-click
Experience of campaigning across the entire UK search market, with Google Adwords, Espotting (now Miva), Overture, Mirago and Webfinder. Have learnt many techniques for improving ROI, such as page position and discouraging unwanted traffic. Adopted strategies to balance management time, performance and budget.

Paid inclusion
Less common now with the growing enthusiasm for PPC. I've used it and seen it work well.

Optimisation
Put simply, there are things you can and should do. There are things you should not do. Further than that I believe there is more art than science involved. After all, if everyone uses the same science where is the advantage?
