At the beginning of the
year Printware had no less than 16 websites, and with over 600,000 visits
during 2002, this far-flung approach to online marketing and e-commerce
could claim some merit.
But when there was talk
of yet another new site in April, some could be forgiven for thinking
enough’s enough. What followed was a programme of rationization with the
merging of some of the lesser lights, and big plans for the as yet unnamed
ameiva.co.uk. Drawing on their wealth of experience, all the lessons learnt
over the past four years would be channelled into the biggest and best site
yet – with particular attention to the experience of the customer.
Ameiva has a wide and
growing range of printers, consumables for all the most popular brands,
paper, labels, and easy-to-use navigation so you can quickly find exactly
what you are looking for. Peter Donnelly, e-commerce co-ordinator says “We
looked at other sites and were amazed at the variable quality of navigation.
What we have on ameiva is second to none, and users who register on the site
can even configure their own entry page with their favourite items and those
they purchase most frequently. Ameiva has taken the best features from our
other sites and combined them into one. Some of those sites are now
redundant, but when we tell our customers about ameiva, we think they’ll be
very pleased with what they find”.
To match the friendly
user interface, Matt O’Donnell’s work on the back office has been
outstanding. The site is linked by EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) to 10
major distributors. If what you want is in the country and you order from
ameiva before 3pm, you can normally expect to receive your goods the next
day.
Secure ordering
Orders and payments are
transacted on a secure server with 1024bit encryption (compared to the more
usual 128bit), more than satisfying the security requirements of Verisign.
Donnelly says “There has
never been a leak of confidential information about our customers, or their
credit card details. However, we understand that some people still have
concerns about buying online, so we have addressed that. Business users who
intend to order from us regularly can open an account after their first
order. That way, they will enjoy all the benefits of easy online ordering
and can pay offline”.
